Account Manager
Sonoco is searching for a Sales Representative with technical skills for their Cascades Sonoco division. The successful candidate will actively seek out and engage prospective customers to grow Cascades Sonoco's water-based and poly extruded coating business in North America. The primary focus will be meeting the sales growth targets for a new $18MM aqueous coating line installed in Birmingham, AL that is targeted for startup in July 2018 . The secondary focus will be filling open capacity on four poly extrusion coaters located in Kingsey Falls, Quebec, Tacoma, Washington and Birmingham, AL


Primary Responsibilities:


Sales Growth



+ Meet and exceed budgeted sales goals


+ Locate and develop new food service and corrugated sales opportunities and drive commercialization strategies for Cascades Sonoco's portfolio of paper board products with innovative, sustainable barrier coatings (FlexSHIELD, FluteSHIELD, and SurfSHIELD).


+ Provide input to further innovation in performance and develop new applications





Customer Relationship Management



+ Establish, develop and maintain positive business and customer relationship


+ Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products


+ Provide technical assistance to customers during field trials


+ Investigate problems at customers and develop solutions to resolve customer complaints


+ Conduct Voice of the Customer interviews





Internal Leadership



+ Lead compliance to the established Product Development Process


+ Participate in weekly cross-functional team meetings and lead progress on sales funnel projects


+ Coordinate internal technical and manufacturing resources to expedite qualification of new opportunities



Industry Networking



+ Serve as liaison with equipment manufacturers, served markets, coating and chemical suppliers, trade associations, and field sales, etc.


+ Attend industry trade shows


+ Gather current market information on pricing, products and new product introductions and provide insightful recommendations to management.



Required Experience





+ 4 Year College / Technical Degree


+ 3+ years experience with water-based coating applications for paperboard packaging and converting markets OR application of coatings in converting applications.


+ Proven record of sales prospecting and new business development


+ Proven ability to manage multiple sales development projects through complex development process.


+ Familiarity with the packaging industry, specifically food service and corrugated markets
